Sea Turtle Inc.
One of our favorite educational experiences is a purely natural one, a visit to Sea Turtle Inc. This wonderful establishment makes it its mission to protect and preserve endangered sea turtles, providing a permanent home to those that will never be able to live free again. They offer the world’s largest sea turtle hospital and rehabilitate injured creatures so they can be released back into the sea.

Island Arcade
Indoor activities on South Padre Island can range from something as simple as watching television as a family on state-of-the-art televisions to hanging out at Island Arcade. Any 80s kid remembers hanging out at the local arcade, needing nothing more than our friends, the games, and an endless supply of quarters. The games cost a bit more these days, and Island Arcade also offers a candy shop, but the fun and the vibe are still the same.

Sometimes the most fun South Padre Island rainy day activities can be ones that can be enjoyed on sunny days as well. Shopping and dining on SPI is as wonderful as you thought it might be, and we’ve included some of our favorite shops and restaurants below.
Turtle Island
This is the spot for souvenirs, offering everything you could possibly need to help memorialize your trip to the island and more. Also selling beachwear and necessities, plan on spending some pleasant hours mulling through its merchandise as the rain pours down outside.

Henrietta’s Bayfront Restaurant
Henrietta’s is known for its water views, and while it does have a large patio you can dine on during sunny days, its indoor dining room is equally large. Offering walls of windows that stretch from floor to ceiling, your views of gray skies and water will be memorable as you devour their surf and turf offerings. We recommend their grilled scallops with crispy calamari tacos for diners with an adventurous bend.

Explore South Padre Island’s History
As the rain continues to fall, your favorite South Padre Island rainy-day activity may be exploring the area’s history. We don’t have any museums on the island, but the Port Isabel Lighthouse offers a wonderful way to explore the area’s history. It lies just across the bridge and also features a Keeper’s Cottage. Plan a day trip over the Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway and learn all there is about a way of life that is rapidly disappearing from our culture.

Local Tips for Rainy Days on South Padre Island
When it comes to indoor activities on South Padre Island, no one knows the best way to avoid being bored better than the locals. Planning a movie day at home in your SPI Rentals rainy-day retreat is one idea, or, on a day when the rain is falling softly, a walk along the shorelines of our beaches. The number one tip, however, is more of a reminder. In most cases, the rain will drift in and drift out quickly, so you can always just wait it out and then get back to your regularly scheduled vacation activities!
