Every vacation takes us on a journey of exploration and discovery, and even as your vacation journey to South Padre Island, Texas, is a shorter one, just three days in length, the discoveries you make will bring you a lifetime of wonder, especially when you choose SPI Rentals for our vacation rentals in South Padre Island, TX, offering cozy comforts, modern conveniences, and a home away from home that you may find difficult to leave at the end of your stay. Today, we are giving our guests some ideas on how to fill all the minutes of a three-day journey, offering examples that will make this getaway different, better, and more exciting than most you have taken before!
Day 1: Savoring Sand, Sea, and Shopping Adventures
You only have 72 hours to experience what could take a lifetime to explore, so we are going to touch on the high points and make sure those 72 hours are jam-packed with fun and adventure, starting with a morning at the beach. You’ve been dreaming about our white sand beaches for so long, it may be difficult to believe that you are finally here, but you are, and a closet filled with VayKLife Beach Gear is about to make your sandy journey that much more fun.
Chances are your Texas sanctuary is located on or near the beach, so you won’t have far to go to tan, splash, and play, and if you choose to make your beach morning an entire beach day, no one will judge! If you do decide to take the afternoon and start your souvenir shopping, however, Padre Boulevard offers a large number of shops and boutiques just waiting to be explored, including Turtle Island (souvenirs), Calypso (clothing and beach gear), and Charmed (gifts, jewelry, and housewares).
Day 2: A Food Journey Begins with a Single Breakfast
Remember, you can follow these suggestions to the letter, pick and choose your favorites, or go rogue and do your own thing; there are no rules associated with vacation life other than you must have a good time! On your second day on South Padre Island, we thought that an exploration of our culinary landscape would bring you joy, and the restaurants listed below offer an iconic and authentic taste of our South Padre Island home.
Breakfast at the Grapevine Café, 100 E Swordfish Street
Our Texan mamas taught us that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and for over 25 years, our Texan taste buds have reminded us that the Grapevine Café does all day breakfast right. Blending Southern comfort food with classic Mexican comfort foods, their biscuits and gravy tastes like our mee-maws are preparing it in their kitchens, and of course, their chilaquiles taste like our abuelas are doing the same. Don’t forget to order a Bloody Mary to go with your huevos!
Dirty Al’s, 33396 State Park Road 100
Offering the best seafood on South Padre Island and possibly the best in the entire state, Dirty Al’s offers a large patio and beautiful water views. If you can’t make up your mind what you want to eat, order their shrimp, fish, and oyster combo and taste the best of the menu!
Laguna Bob’s, 2401 Laguna Boulevard
You know how there is always that one restaurant that you have to eat at when you have been away from home too long? Laguna Bob’s is our restaurant, serving up runners and swimmers and offering a cocktail menu that goes with any dish (their Beachin Bob made with cranberry juice and a blend of berry and melon liqueurs, is our absolute fave!) and live music nearly every night of the week.
Day 3: 72 Hours Went by Way Too Quickly
Be careful not to blink or you might miss the entire weekend, it goes by that fast. Today, on your last full day in paradise there are a couple of directions in which you could take this journey. The first one involves taking a walk on the wild side with visits to the South Padre Island Birding, Nature Center, & Alligator Sanctuary as well as Sea Turtle, Inc. Both places offer the chance to commune with nature in protected habitats.
Or, if you feel like sticking closer to home, you could stay home and explore all the amenities we offer in our SPI Rentals seaside (and inland) retreats. Swim in the clear waters of private (or community) pools, create simple and easy meals in outdoor kitchens, grill your catch of the day on shiny propane grills, or simply hang out on balconies overlooking the sea while chatting with family or friends. The extended weekend certainly passed in the blink of an eye, but every minute spent on South Padre Island is worth 10 minutes of real life, so if you think about it, in real life time you were here for a month!
