The month of May is considered the “sweet spot” with daytime temps reaching the low 80s, making beach days and water activities the best idea.
Visiting in Summer
Summer is our peak season, as beach goers all know that the long, hot days make it the best time to go to South Padre. It will be humid, however, with temperatures reaching the low 90s, and there may be occasional afternoon or evening thunderstorms. Summer is also hurricane season, so you may want to factor that into your planning, even though we rarely have catastrophic storms.
Visiting in Fall
The locals often feel that the best time to visit South Padre Island is during the fall, especially the early months. The humidity starts to decrease, and although September is our rainiest month, the warmth still makes it an ideal time in which to swim and go to the beach.

Our winters are generally mild, with temperatures rarely dropping below the mid-50s at night and rarely rising above the mid-70s in the daytime. It rarely rains, making winter most travelers’ second-best time to go to South Padre Island.
